Caber Tossing

The Caber Toss is a traditional Scottish athletic event that involves running towards the finish line with a caber on your hands, and then tossing the caber into the air. This sport originates from friendly lumberjacks tossing logs across rivers and creeks to get to the other side. Caber Tossing has become a major part of the Highland games in Scotland’s heritage and is enjoyed every spring and summer.

Haggis Hurling

Considered as the “unusual sport” within Scotland, the Scottish sport of Haggis Hurling has been played in a variety of countries such as the US, Canada, and Australia – where groups of Scottish people have settled. The game is quite simple to play, but fun to compete in; the haggis is hurled whilst standing on a specific item. Winning hurls are based on accuracy and distance!

Tug Of War

Tug Of War is another popular sport featured in our Highland Games in Edinburgh and is one particularly popular competitive sport within Scotland itself. As you may know, Tug Of War consists of two teams attempting to pull on opposite ends of a rope, in a test of strength and camaraderie – perfect for any team-building activity!
